The Top 10 Greatest Wide Receivers of All Time

February 4th, 2010 by frida6558250

10) Tim Brown – Owns every conceivable receiving record for the raiders. A tremendous threat in the return game early on in his career, he polished his skills to be one of the most dangerous players of the 1990s.

9) Jimmy Smith – Never got the full credit he deserved. He was not blessed with the most dominating physical attributes, but he always found a way to get open. Over 12,000 yards in his career speaks for itself. If he is not a first ballot hall of famer, something is definitely wrong.
8) Don Hutson – Obviously from a different era, but he should be on this list just for his 1942 season. He had 74 catches for 1211 yards and 17 touchdowns. May not be considered earth shattering by today’s game, but to put it in perspective, he had more receptions than some entire teams had for that year. Helped pioneer the modern passing game.

7) Isaac Bruce – If it’s at all possible for somebody to put up incredible numbers throughout his career and not to be recognized by many outside the NFL circles as top-tier player, Isaac Bruce accomplished it. His stats tower over many receivers that are in the hall of fame, yet many don’t see him being first ballot Hall of Famers.

6) Steve Largent – Proved how little importance should be made to 40 yard times and vertical jumps. He perfected the most important aspect the job. He was always able to get open and when he did, he caught the ball. Simple but effective. He was the first receiver to ever reach the 100 career touchdown mark.

5) Chris Carter – Arguably, the greatest hands to ever touch a football. If there was some kind of career statistic that measured the percentage of drops per reception attempt, this man would be king.

4) Michael Irvin – Sure, he might have gotten away with more push-offs than any other receiver in the history of the league. But you can’t argue with the results. He helped lead the Cowboys to three Super Bowl victories as they became the team of the 90s.

3) Marvin Harrison – From the Jerry Rice school of wide receiver. Work! Work! Work! Hours upon hours studying game films, running routes after routes, helped Harrison become the best wide receiver of his generation.

2) Randy Moss – Distractions aside, and with the possible exception of Bo Jackson, nobody in the history of the league has been more physically dominating in his position than Randy Moss. It genuinely looks like he is a man playing amongst boys. World class speed, could jump over skyscrapers, wingspan of a pterodactyl, he is genuine freak of nature.

1) Jerry Rice – Was there every any doubt? His career receiving numbers would be impressive even if they were passing statistics. It is safe to say, these records will never even be sniffed in the next 100 years.

shipshape Bowl, Dad & Me

February 4th, 2010 by frida6558250

Planted in his sad wheelchair with silvery spokes, seated to the good of his bed and facing the TV, that chair his home on wheels now that he will never gallop again. Dad smiles when he sees me, a cramped extra sparkle in his eyes when he sees the sizable white box and liquid refreshment, all the while the plan of his beloved Giants in the natty Bowl dancing slack those eyes.

I begin the pizza box, and lift out a sever, placing it gently on one of the paper plates that came with the pizza. It is unexcited a few minutes before kickoff, and Dad slides the front corner of the sever onto his eagerly awaiting taste buds. The cheese keeps a stretched link between him and the gash as his hands pull the allotment towards his plate. I hope he chews the cheese well. When did the child become the parent?

We have shared many moments watching the Giants together, but this game is more special than the others. He is not well, and this Giants roll has been a broad release from the suffering for both of us. That is one of the secrets of sports, and that is why we devour them so mighty. A 3-hour vacation from what can be harsh reality, to a position where we can roar, root and carry on without difficulty… without alarm.

We both happily chew on our pizza, Dad then taking a unimaginative sip of bubbling Coke from his plastic cup, the brown liquid chasing down the sauce and pie crust. Not unlike younger days when we suffered together through poor Giants teams. Then, Lawrence Taylor, Bill Parcells, Phil Simms and company slowly brought the team and its fans toward the light. Playoff losses to the Joe Montana-led San Francisco 49ers, then the Chicago Bears. 1986 brought the Giants their first smart Bowl, and us as fans a long-awaited reward for our loyalty. 1990 would bring another.

Dad looks at the pie with interest. I glean up and pull out a second fraction for him, and without a word he goes to work on it with energy. A safe notice. His appetite is safe today.

Who knows if this will be the last time me and Dad section a Giants spruce Bowl together, although I hope the respond to that query has more to do with the mental and physical health of Eli Manning than my Dad.

Kickoff is here, and so are we. A chronicle that has been played out throughout the years, all over the world. Parent and child, the joy of sports, rooting… sharing. It’s going to be a gargantuan vacation.

Coaching Middle School Football – exhaust These 4 Handy Tips

February 4th, 2010 by frida6558250

It is a spacious view to practice angle tackles with your defense because not all tackles are made with the opponent lawful in front of you. area up a simple drill with two players, on as the offense with the ball running in a straight line, the other as the defender running towards him at some angle. As the defender he will need to adjust his body to conceal the shortest distance towards the ball carrier, and gain the cessation by placing his foot squarely in front, and remembers for safety to place his head in front of the ball carrier. The defender follows through with the tackle by straightening his knees in a lunging type motion, wrapping his arms around the ball carrier to pull him down to the ground or push him off sides.

The importance of learning the Playbook

Practicing the plays is fun, and also very vital. When you master your fragment of the play it will strengthen your team and yourself. Because football plays can be intricate, it is famous that you understand and follow the coach’s instructions. As you initiate to practice the play earn certain to insensible it down, there is no sense in practicing errors. Go over it again and again, and you will earn that your mind will succor you learn the plays even when you sleep.

Learning the Basics of Catching a grievous Football Pass

This means that quarterbacks, running backs, receivers, etc have gone through the motions several times and know how to react to situations on the field. One plot that most offensive players will face is the obscene fetch. One not so perfect scenario is a vulgar passed net. First preserve the pinkies together down obscene to fabricate a shovel. This ensures that the ball will not move through your fingers. Second, maintain indecent to the ground as a reference your knees should be level with your elbows, and if this means that you are down on all fours better a complete and no extra yards than an incomplete pass. Once you have the football in your hands scoop it up and tuck it away. exercise your hands and not your body. hold your eyes honest on the ball. accumulate it first and then trouble about running it.

Prevent fumbles with strong techniques

One of the fundamental aspects of running with a football is ball security. Nothing is worse for your offensive team then turning it over carelessly to the other team in a fumble. Basic ball security can be broken down into four steps. First grab the football with your carrying hand with the tips of the football being covered with your fingers. The second point is your forearm wrapped around the ball and shielding it from the defense. The third point is securing the other point of the football with your bicep making determined that it is fair up against it. Fourth, pull the football up and tight against your ribcage closing the gap on the football from all four sides. race a couple of drills were the ball carrier runs through a pack of defenders to practice. As your ball carrying continues to improve you will insure less turnovers and greater success on the field.

Mary Poppins may be =the= stand-out live-action movie that Disney has ever produced. Or will ever produce.

All the songs are very memorable. Who out there does not find themselves humming or even singing along with the likes of “Chim-Chim-Cheree” or “Spoonful of Sugar”?

Julie Andrews will always be remembered for her role as Mary Poppins, and Dick Van Dyke absolutely shines as Bert the Chimney Sweep. Van Dyke also plays the senior officer of the bank – and has his very best scene where he realizes that the punchline – “A wooden leg named Smith” – is funny. Andrews won an Academy Award for Mary Poppins, and the movie also won Best Visual Effects, and Best Music Score, as well as Best Song (“Chim Chim Cher-ee”).

The scene where “I love to laugh” is particularly poignant. Ed Wynn died not long after the release of Mary Poppins, and shows some of his best comedy style in this scene. Very laughable.

The story is top-notch and has a wonderful moral without being too “preachy”. It was a very good adaptation from the original novel, and it’s a shame Disney never did any of P L Traver’s own sequels to Mary Poppins.

The animated bits are a little flat by today’s standards, but they add a wonderful whimsey to a stellar production. Highly recommended to any family with children. A must-buy for Disney fans.

This is the far better, two-disc, 40th anniversary edition that not only restores everything to digital quality, but adds a second disc of deleted scenes (and a song!), commentary, and many other cool new features. Look for the new 40th anniversary DVD edition – it’s worth waiting for!

It’s just supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!

“Mary Poppins” is one of that select group of films that can truly be called ‘Classic’, a project conceived in love and filled with so much child-like wonder that it will never grow old or ‘out-of-date’. Certainly the crowning achievement of Walt Disney’s remarkable career, the “Mary Poppins” 40th Anniversary Special Edition is simply magnificent!

Based on P.L. Travers’ tales of a magical nanny who arrives to bring families closer, the rights to the stories had been pursued by Disney since 1938, but Travers had seen what studios had done to other authors’ works, and withheld her approval unless she could maintain some creative control. Years of negotiations only whetted Disney’s desire to make a definitive, truly ’special’ film, and by 1960, despite the box office failure of another fantasy-themed ‘pet’ project, “Darby O’Gill and the Little People”, he was more confident than ever in the story’s potential, bringing together a remarkable array of talent, including songwriting brothers Richard and Robert Sherman, production head Bill Walsh, and the brilliant artist Peter Ellenshaw to ‘visualize’ 1910 London through his matte paintings.

With Travers’ grudging approval, casting began. While American stage and TV star Dick Van Dyke was an odd choice to play a Cockney chimneysweep, he was a gifted mime and physical comedian, and had such a wholesome exuberance that Disney knew British audiences would forgive his shaky accent. Popular British actors Glynis Johns and David Tomlinson would play the preoccupied parents, with Karen Dotrice and Matthew Garber (from “The Three Lives of Thomasina”) as the neglected children. Veteran stars Ed Wynn, Elsa Lanchester, Reginald Owen, Arthur Treacher, and Jane Darwell (as the Bird Woman, in her last screen appearance), headed the strong supporting cast.

But it was the casting of Julie Andrews, in her first film, as Mary Poppins, that truly ‘made’ the film! Passed over by Jack Warner for the movie version of her stage hit, “My Fair Lady” (he opted for Audrey Hepburn), Disney caught her performance in “Camelot” on Broadway, knew, instantly, that she was the right ‘Mary’, and approached her for the role. “But I’m pregnant,” she told him. “No problem,” he replied. “I’ll wait!”

And thus a Classic was born!

A multiple 1964 Oscar winner (including ‘Best Actress’ for Andrews, who got to share the stage with her “Lady” costar, Rex Harrison, who won ‘Best Actor’), the film was a major hit, worldwide, and quickly achieved the legendary status it holds today.

For it’s 40th Anniversary, Disney’s heirs have put together a spectacular package; along with the digitally-remastered film (it looks and sounds SUPERB!), a second disc of additional features includes a joyous reunion of stars Andrews and Van Dyke (who both seem ageless!); reminiscences of Robert Sherman, who sings a cute ditty cut from the final film; a fascinating 50-minute “behind-the-scenes” documentary about the production; featurettes on how the FX were achieved in several key scenes; and much, MUCH more! As the owner of several “Special Edition” Disney DVDs, I can honestly say, THIS is the BEST, yet!

With the holidays fast approaching, I can’t think of a finer gift to give, or to get!

Season 1 – Volume 1: He-man & the Masters of the Universe! The classic 80s cartoon FINALLY arrives with all its memorable characters, stories & fantasy, digitally remastered with extras! This fall – mark the date! October 18th! Part 1 of 2, Season 1, this set is chock-a-block with amazing extras. The hit cartoon adventure series brought to life the adventures of Prince Adam & his alter-ego, the mighty He-Man battling the evil Skeletor to protect the secrets of Castle Grayskull. Son of King Randor and Queen Marlena of Eternia, his faithful sidekick was the cowardly green & orange pet tiger, Cringer. “By the power of Grayskull!” Adam’s cry in times of danger, together with his magical ‘Sword Of Power’ transformed them into the mighty He-Man and the ferocious tiger, Battle Cat. Aided by Man-At-Arms, Duncan (the slightly older scientist and Adam’s mentor), his adopted daughter Teela (Captain of the Guards and Prince Adam’s aide), the quirky & comic Orko (the little floating magician) & Ram Man (kind hearted, but slow “human battering ram”) with his winged ally Stratos, the team faced the forces of evil. The Sorceress of Castle Grayskull entrusted Prince Adam with the Sword of Power to defend the magnificent kingdom of Eternia and Grayskull – said to hold the powers to rule the entire universe.

Heading the forces of darkness was Skeletor, the evil hooded skull face, residing on the dark side of the planet in his powerful fortress, Snake Mountain. While the savage, dim-witted Beast Man, who possessed telepathic control over many animals was his right hand; it was Evil-Lyn, the incredibly shrewd witch who played on Skeletor’s troop for sheer convenience, only to assume power for herself at the right moment. The cyborg-like Trap Jaw, aquatic warlord Mer-Man, and the three-eyed, pan-visioned Tri-Klops completed Skeletors army.

The show ran for two seasons, of 65 episodes each – hence the DVD release of each season has been split into 2 Volumes each, over the next 2 years. Initially, many of the stories put our heroes against Skeletor, revolving around Castle Grayskull. As the series grew the adventures took them to many different locations and foes, often putting characters on both sides of the battle. Sometimes criticized for being too dark & violent for its time, this claim seems a little redundant in today’s age of children’s graphic animation. Particularly note-worthy is that each episode ended with one or two of the characters presenting a moral from that episode’s tale – the consequences of thoughts & actions, which makes the series particularly relevant given the times we live in. For fans of the show – its a great chance to relive those golden moments of childhood, & hopefully it will open the door to a whole new generation of fans, adults & kids. Get ready to feel the power of Grayskull!

Why this outrageous statement??? Originally cartoons were shown on Saturday morning only. He-Man was the first show to be syndicated through a network other than the big 3 (ABC, NBC and CBS). What this meant was that an episode was shown every afternoon instead of just on Saturday mornings. Wow… 65 episodes were made per year instead of only 13 that were normally produced for a typical Saturday show and this made for an incredible following. Who didn’t watch this show? Even parents would comment about it when they asked what I did for a living and I mentioned I was an animator on He-Man. This was one of the last shows done entirely in the U.S. as most of the animation work was being sent overseas by the early 80’s. Lou Scheimer was the founder of Filmation Studios and made a vow to keep the work in the U.S. and was true to his word until it became impossible to compete with the wages being paid overseas and, sadly, the studio closed in ‘86 but not until after the successful runs of He-Man, She-Ra, Ghostbusters and the final series Bravestar. My memories working at Filmation are some of the best I have of my 25+ years in the animation industry. He-Man changed the way cartoons would be viewed forever… this is a must have set!!!! Lets hope they decide to release some of the other memorable animated shows created at Filmation Studios.

This DVD series is one of the most moving I have seen. The animation is pretty good over all, but the story is the biggest sales point. It’s complex, nuanced, and fascinating. Centered around a scientific experiment gone awry and its long-term effects, it follows the adventures of an alien being as she seeks to complete her earth-bound experience. She is consistently misunderstood by most she encounters and her journey is quite moving throughout. I so wanted to find out “what happens next” that I bought the entire series, and am very glad to have it. This series is serious in tone and provides food for thought about many issues. I highly recommend it.

I just sat down to watch the 5th movie in this set and unfortunately what was in the package wasn’t the movie, but “special features”. Which means either I have to exchange the set and try my luck again (looks like this is a common problem with this set) or I just fork over more money to get just the 5th movie. Very sloppy to be selling something like this.

I received this set missing the Disc 5 movie (it came with the special features disc instead). I had it replaced only to have the same problem again. Very poorly distributed by the manufacturer. I would not recommend this set until they have figured out the problem.

When I origionally saw this film in the cinema, it was great! full of action and the jokes where quite witty.

Unfortunatly this dvd version has been censored to a point where quite a few of the action sequences have been cut out and the film just dosn’t flow.

The film cuts from diferent scenes, missing out sections that leave the viewer quite puzzled about how the characters got to the point they are at.

I don’t understand why they would censor an animated film that is rated PG anyway.

All in All if you can get your hands on the origional version its a must!

but for the time beeing I’d stay away from it, it kind of ruins the real fun the story has.

In this great little flick, “Author,” we quickly are drawn into the mode as Author’s grandmother is about to lose her farm to developers and sees no help in sight since Grandpa has been missing for a long time.

Author listens to the stories that his grandmother reads to him, stories of adventures and little people that his grandfather discovered and helped. Fantacy or truth? Author feels they are true and goes on a search to find clues as to where his grandfather has gone knowing he certainly must have left to find the treasure of jewels that he knew his family would need.

It seems there is a land of tiny people living in Author’s garden, a people called the Minimoys and Arthur must allow himself to be shrunk to enter this world, save his grandpa and bring the treasure home to save the farm. The adventure begins as we meet a quite charming and fiesty Princess, a kindly King and a nation of adorable little bitty people. As in any good movie there is always the ‘evil one,’ as is the case here and we meet Maltazard who has been holding Grandpa captive and is planning to destroy the little people. Can Arthur save the day?

This movie is cute a a button, going back and forth from normal to animated. It held all of our attention from the 8 year old to the 60 year old. It is fun, adventerous and has a happy ending. I think you will like this one.

I absolutely LOOOOVE these shoes!!

They caught my eye while browsing online for a quality high top sneaker. I went looking in stores for a sneaker that I just had to have but nothing caught my eye. There were a pair of Adidas high tops that looked convincing but they were a size too small. I finally gave up and decided to look on Amazon, and lucky me, I happened to stumble on the Osiris Bronx and I fell in love.

I ordered the Black/White/Black version. They were true to size for me and the width was fairly snug, not bad though except, i don’t have very wide feet. They’re extremely comfortable and I love how cushioned they feel, like walking on the moon! They’re extremely fashionable (at least I think so!) and I’m afraid to wear them for fear of dirtying them! I’m so impressed with these shoes that I’ve actually ordered the “Cuban” colored ones that have a crazy awesome color combination which Amazon sadly has no picture of :( . there are other really cool color combinations (like black, red, and, white) that Amazon doesn’t sell, so if you like the style of the shoe but not the colors, just look at other online retailers to find a color that suits you.

what is the style that’s pictured here. i have been trying to find this sneaker everywhere but no dice

i love this shoe its so paded. the laces are the right size the only bad thing about these shoes is that you got to wear taller socks

Overall, I am extremely pleased with the scanner, but disappointed with the driver software supplied by Fujitsu; except for the ADOBE 7.0 OEM package.

Tech Support by phone is SUPERB: only a five minute wait.

Before buying be sure you understand that this unit is composed of TWO scanning elements. The ADF unit has a built in scanner that is integrated with a separate flatbed scanner. The ADF will handle LEGAL size pages with no problem. However the flatbed only handles letter size pages.

Fujitsu’s disc contains two TRIAL programs; QuickScan Pro and Image Processing Software by Captiva Software. Both packages are geared to small office or commercial business needs and I did not take time to get into those; mostly because they are cost prohibitive for a home user and it is an onerous task to navigate the extensive documentation on the CD. If you are looking for a unit to automate document control and eliminate the paper in an office, this is a good starting point.

I found the Installation CD to be poorly designed and confusing. For example if you try to load the ISIS driver without a program such as QuickScan Pro that it can link to, the system will not popup a dialog explaining the problem.

The basic Fujitsu software supplied with the scanner is the TWAIN driver and program called ScanDALL 21. There are THREE separate screens that you have to deal with while scanning and the functions can be a bit confusing. Yes there is documentation, about 180 pages…

For example, you can choose several options for each scan operation. One is Scan to File, another View Scan. If you choose the first all the pages are instantly scanned to the chosen directory, without thumbnail views.

Fujitsu engineers and document specialists did not take the time to ensure that all information on the diagnostic functions was grammatically correct. Yes, it is understandable, but shows a lack of care.

A home user with minimal functional needs can easily get by with the Microsoft Office Scanner tool or simply use the included ADOBE Acrobat 7.0 package.
